The Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI) is pleased to announce the Sixth Maldives Marine Science Symposium (MMSS 2026), the nation’s leading platform for sharing marine science and research conducted in the Maldives.
The Sixth MMSS will be held on August 4–5, 2026, in Malé, Maldives, as a fully in-person event. We warmly invite researchers, students, and stakeholders to join us for this in-person gathering to celebrate marine science in the Maldives.
MMSS continues to celebrate and showcase the expanding body of knowledge that informs our understanding and stewardship of the Maldivian marine environment. Over the years, the symposium has brought together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to exchange ideas and foster meaningful collaborations.
The symposium will feature a dynamic program of oral and poster presentations, highlighting recent scientific work across a broad range of topics. The final symposium themes will be determined based on submitted abstracts.

Abstract submissions for the Sixth Maldives Marine Science Symposium 2026 are now open.
We welcome presentations on all marine-related research conducted in the Maldives. Topics may include, but are not limited to: coral reef dynamics, restoration, climate change adaptation, fisheries, aquaculture, marine spatial planning, mesophotic reefs, megafauna, oceanography, coastal ecosystems, and traditional ecological knowledge.
