The Coral Reef Research activities focus on acquiring knowledge required to understand and make informed decisions on issues relating to health, conservation, climate change, natural and anthropogenic stressors on the coral reef habitats as well as their rehabilitation and recovery from degradation. Established in 1998, the National Coral Reef Monitoring Framework is our longest running monitoring programme with 57 monitoring sites across the country. The research efforts involve close coordination with key stakeholders, engaging with the tourism industry and citizen science programmes to maintain a database of information regarding reef health. In addition, research efforts also focus on rehabilitation and restoration of severely damaged coral reefs across the country.
